Wang Ping author's photo

Wang Ping is the recipient of awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Bush Foundation, the McKnight Foundation and the Loft Literary Center, the Lannan Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center, the New York State Council for the Arts, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. She is a translator, photographer, and the author of several books of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Her books have won the Eugene Kaden Award, the Asian American Studies Award, the Minnesota Book Award, and others.

Ping received the 2014 Immigrant of Distinction Award from the Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Born in Shanghai, Wang Ping earned her BA in English Literature from Beijing University, her MA in English Literature from Long Island University, and her PhD in Comparative Literature from New York University. She is a professor of English at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Wang Ping is the creator and director of [Kinship of Rivers], a five-year interdisciplinary project to build kinship among communities along the Mississippi and Yangtze, and to bring much awareness to the river's ecosystem through art, literature, music, food, and installations of river-flags made by river communities. Since its creation in spring, 2011, [Kinship of Rivers] has attracted over 2220 members to our facebook group, where we share poetry, art and news about rivers on the daily basis. The [Kinship of Rivers] website has published thousands of poems, stories, music, art, videos and photographs.
